H3R8ci

H3 arginine 8 citrullination by PADI4 helps in reversing the transcriptional activation brought about by the combined efforts of nuclear hormone receptor coactivators, histone arginine methyltransferases and histone deacetylases (PMID: 15345777). H3 deimination increases rapidly in response to neutrophile activation stimuli like LPS, TNF, lipoteichoic acid, f-MLP, or hydrogen peroxide and is released to the extracellular space as part of the neutrophil response to infections (PMID: 18209087). R8 deimination prevents methylation by CARM1 thus causing transcriptional repression of target genes (PMID: 15339660).
