Histone Lysine ribosylases
Poly (ADP-ribose) Polymerase (PARP) is a class of enzyme that catalyse the poly ADP-ribosylation of various nuclear proteins. Histones are one of the targets of these enzymes and PARP1 catalyses the transfer of ADP-ribose group from Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) (donor) to the lysine residue of histones or to an already exhisting poly(ADP-ribose) chain.
Poly ADP-ribosylation of histones leads to change in the chromatin structure and has been shown to affect transcription regulation.
