Histone Lysine biotinases
There is only a single biotinase known in humans. Its activity is cell cycle dependent. It binds to biotin and catalyses the reaction in 2 steps. First step: activation of biotin by addition of AMP to give biotinyl-5'-AMP. This step utilizes ATP as a donor. Second step: transfer to histones via removal of AMP. Deficiency of this enzymes leads to an autosomal recessive disorder called multiple carboxylase deficiency (MCD).
