Histone arginine citrullination
Citrullination (ci) is also referred to as Deimination. This modification occurs at specific arginine residues in histone peptides and is mediated by Protein arginine deiminase enzymes (PAD). Catalysis involves conversion of [-C(NH)- to -C(O)-] in the arginine residue side chain. Citrullination has an important role during events like cellular apoptosis. This modification prevents the subsequent methylation of arginine residues by other methyltransferase like CARM1.
