Bifunctional arginine demethylase and lysyl-hydroxylase JMJD6
JMJD6 is an iron- and 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase. It is the only known histone arginine demethylase in humans. It catalyses the demethylation of H3R2me2, H4R3me2 and H4R3me1 (PMID: 17947579). It is shown to regulate RNA splicing in a specific manner by virtue of its hydroxylase activity (PMID: 19574390). JMJD6 binds most efficiently with single stranded RNA (PMID: 20679243).
