Protein arginine N-methyltransferase 8

PRMT8 is shown to catalyse the in vitro methylation of histone H4. It is also shown to mediate monomethylation and asymmetric dimethylation. PRMT8 is tissue specific and expressed in brain. It differs from other PRMTs as it is often found associated with the plasma membrane (PMID: 16051612). Reports suggest that the N-terminal tail of PRMT8 has autoregulatory activity (PMID: 17925405).
