Protein arginine N-methyltransferase 5

JBP1 is a methyltransferase with specificity towards histone H2A and H4 (PMID: 10531356). PRMT5 is shown to catalyse monomethylation and symmetric dimethylation of arginine residues (PMID: 11413150). PRMT5 is shown to promote cancer by stimulating anchorage-independent growth and inhibiting tumour suppressor genes (PMID: 15485929) (PMID: 18694959). It is also involved in gene silencing via methylation of H4R3 and recruitment of DNMT3A (PMID: 19234465). PRMT5 is reported to show increased activity in many human cancers (PMID: 20951943). PRMT5 translation is differentially regulated by mir-92b/96 in normal and malignant human lymphocytes (PMID: 17627275).
