Protein arginine N-methyltransferase 6

PRMT6 belongs to the PRMT family of methyltransferases and is found exclusively inside the nucleus (PMID: 11724789). PRMT6 is shown to methylate an HIV protein Tat and negatively regulates HIV replication (PMID: 15596808). PRMT6 catalysed methylation of DNA polymerase beta is shown to enhance its DNA binding property and hence regulates base excision repair (BER) (PMID: 16600869). H3R2 dimethylation antagonises the H3K4 methyl activation marks and hence represses transcription (PMID: 18079182). PRMT6 is implicated in human carcinogenesis (PMID: 20473859).
