Abstract:
There are several avatars of the first law of black hole mechanics. The stationary comparison version of the first law deals with the infinitesimal variations of a stationary black hole in the space of solutions of general relativity, whereas the physical process version involves the change of the horizon entropy due to the influx of matter. In this talk, I will discuss the derivation of various versions of the first law and how a local first law can be derived on the stretched light cone of any event in an arbitrary space-time.
