  46. Dr. Aurnab Ghose and team from IISER Pune, with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), SP Pune University (SPPU) and other partners, undertook an epidemiological and serological survey for COVID-19 in selected high-incidence areas of Pune city. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, IISER Pune decided to move its classes online till December 2020, with various measures taken for inclusive learning - including providing dongles with data plan to students who lack access.   55. Dr. Neelesh Dahanukar and his collaborators discovered a new genus and species of a new Maharaja barb fish from the Western Ghats. Dr Angshuman Nag’s work has found a way to improve the stability of perovskite (mineral form of calcium titanate, used widely in household appliances) nanocrystals, while maintaining high light emission intensity and electronic connectivity of the nanocrystals.   60. Dr. Nixon Abraham in association with Sassoon Hospital is trying to assess if early detection of smell disruption can be used to screen for COVID-19, in light of the observation that loss of smell is one of the symptoms of the disease. Hindustan Times reported. June 02, 2020.

  61. Dr. Aurnab Ghose and his collaborators found that spectrin molecules, which are present in neurons, protect them from mechanical shocks and stretch-induced damage. The research was published in the journal eLife and was covered by India Education Diary. May 28, 2020.

  62. In response to the growing COVID-19 crisis and the need to ramp up testing, IISER Pune came forward to set up a testing centre on the campus. The Centre began its activities from May 21, 2020. Hindustan Times reported. May 22, 2020. Savitribai Phule Pune University joined hands with IISER Pune to further augment the capacity of the COVID-19 Testing Centre.
