In a follow-up analysis of the first serological and epidemiological survey for COVID-19 in Pune city, Dr. Aurnab Ghose and his colleagues found that 85% of the set of COVID-19 positive samples analysed in the study showed the presence of neutralising antibodies.   45. Dr. Devapriya Chattopadhyay's career story was published by SheThePeople, an online magazine that highlights the achievements of women in various fields. August 25, 2020.

  46. Dr. Aurnab Ghose and team from IISER Pune, with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), SP Pune University (SPPU) and other partners, undertook an epidemiological and serological survey for COVID-19 in selected high-incidence areas of Pune city. Findings of the survey were reported extensively by local and national media - Business World, Deccan Herald, India New England, NE Now, News Today, Fortune, NDTV, Indian Express, News AIR and Frontline.   50. Prof. Sutirth Dey and team's research on evolution of dispersal patterns of fruit fly populations and factors affecting it was recently published in the prestigious journal Evolution. The Hindu and Indian Express published a report on the findings. August 3, 2020.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, IISER Pune decided to move its classes online till December 2020, with various measures taken for inclusive learning - including providing dongles with data plan to students who lack access. Pune Mirror reported.   55. Dr. Neelesh Dahanukar and his collaborators discovered a new genus and species of a new Maharaja barb fish from the Western Ghats. Dr Angshuman Nag’s work has found a way to improve the stability of perovskite (mineral form of calcium titanate, used widely in household appliances) nanocrystals, while maintaining high light emission intensity and electronic connectivity of the nanocrystals.   60. Dr. Nixon Abraham in association with Sassoon Hospital is trying to assess if early detection of smell disruption can be used to screen for COVID-19, in light of the observation that loss of smell is one of the symptoms of the disease. Hindustan Times reported. June 02, 2020.

  61. Dr. Aurnab Ghose and his collaborators found that spectrin molecules, which are present in neurons, protect them from mechanical shocks and stretch-induced damage. The research was published in the journal eLife and was covered by India Education Diary. May 28, 2020.

  62. In response to the growing COVID-19 crisis and the need to ramp up testing, IISER Pune came forward to set up a testing centre on the campus. The Centre began its activities from May 21, 2020. Hindustan Times reported. May 22, 2020. Savitribai Phule Pune University joined hands with IISER Pune to further augment the capacity of the COVID-19 Testing Centre.   64. Dr. Neelesh Dahanukar and his collaborators have discovered three new species of filament barbs, a type of fish found in the Western Ghats. The Hindu, Times of India, Deccan Herald reported. May 11, 2020.

  65. Dr. Umakant Rapol, Dr. Sunil Nair, Mr. Nilesh Dumbre and team have developed a low-cost ventilator, inspired by the Bharucha ventilator, which can be put together with readily available and easily source-able parts. Careers360, Hindustan Times, SakalHT Pune reported. May 04, 2020.

  77. A hostel for women research scholars at IISER Pune has been built through a generous endowment from Bajaj Auto Ltd. This Hall of Residence was inaugurated by Dr. Raghunath A. Mashelkar in the presence Shri. Rahul Bajaj. Shri. Bajaj announced supporting three Chair Professorships and one Distinguished Professorship at IISER Pune on this occasion. Times of India reported.   86. On occasion of Children's Day, IISER Pune had organised an open science exhibition for students and citizens.
