Abstract:
The kingdom of Ahmadnagar was an important polity in the sixteenth-century Deccan. Their patronage of architecture and patterns of planning reflect their aspirational connections with the Timurids and diplomatic connections with the Safavids. Their architectural legacy continued as the early Maratha state emerged from their erstwhile domains. In this lecture, we will see how architectural evidence can be used to recover and narrate these connections and cultural continuities.
