Patrice Nganang's Dog Days is a novel narrated by a stray dog living in the city (Yaoundé, Cameroon) ravaged by poverty and political instability. Maboudjak - the stray dog is like the human hero of a picaresque novel who occupies a low social rank but gains a unique perspective on the world due to his underprivileged position. I would like to discuss the canine figures in the postcolonial literature in French. (’Temps de Chien’ by Patrice Nganang 1999 and some references to ‘Un Chien Mort Après Lui’ by Jean Rolin 2010) The objective of the discussion is to analyze how the canine figure that has been prominent in the pastoral texts or the fables is employed by these writers in the context of the "urban jungle” of the post-industrial cities and how it appears at the fissures of socio-political conflicts.
