Election Prediction using Statistics and Data Mining

Election prediction has always been of interest to many researchers. In this talk, we discuss the prediction of number of seats for major parties in Maharashtra during 2019 parliamentary elections. We use the data from past parliamentary and assembly elections to build a model using basic statistical and data mining tools. The model selection, parameter tuning are done based on performance of the model for 2014 elections. The final predictions are quite in agreement with the actual results of the elections.
