However, the S matrix is infrared divergent in four dimensions due to massless particles in the theory. Faddeev and Kulish have developed a formalism to construct infrared finite S matrix by working with asymptotic states instead of Fock states. We discuss the Ward identity in these asymptotic states in the context of QCD.
