Abstract:
Based on fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, atomic physics and
spectroscopy entail physical atomic processes in almost all universal environments.
Macroscopic observations of images and spectra reveal the detailed nature of sources, but stem from microphysics of atomic interactions. I shall describe two major applications of atomic physics: (i) study of astronomical objects ranging from stars to binary object mergers of black holes and neutron stars
resulting in gravitational waves, and (ii) biomedical research aimed at radiation therapy and diagnostics (theranostics) cancerous tumors using monochromaticX-rays using nanobiotechnology.
