The discovery of the Spin Seebeck Effect close to a decade back has spurred interest in the rapidly expanding area of Spin Caloritronics, which refer to the coupling between heat, spin and charge currents in magnetic materials. Here, the Spin Seebeck Effect (SSE) pertains to the generation of a (magnon driven) spin current in a magnetic material when subjected to a temperature gradient. In this talk, I would present an overview of the development of this area of research. I would also describe some of our results in this field aimed at understanding the temperature evolution of the SSE. Our observations highlight the importance of individually ascertaining the temperature evolution of different mechanisms — especially the spin mixing conductance — which contribute to the measured spin Seebeck signal.
