Abstract:
Chern-Simons gauge theories describe the low energy physics of a large class of parity violating theories in 2+1 dimensions.Coupling bosonic or fermionic matter to Chern-Simons gauge theory imparts anyonic properties to the bosonic or fermionic excitations, as has been extensively studied since the 1980's, possibly even earlier.
We study these Chern-Simons-matter theories at finite chemical potential and discuss a one-parameter generalization of the Bose-Einstein or Fermi-Dirac distributions for the occupation numbers of the matter excitations, first obtained for the fermionic theories by Geracie, Goykhman and Son (2015). The implications for the bosonic
theories are quite drastic: we demonstrate that Chern-Simons coupled bosons obey an exclusion principle akin to the Pauli exclusion principle for fermions.
