The Siwaliks of South Asia have some of the richest fossil mammal deposits anywhere in the world ranging from the Oligocene to the Pleistocene. In this talk, I will give a brief overview of the fossil bearing Pliocene and Pleistocene beds of the Indian Subcontinent, and the mammalian fossil record, discuss faunal change between 3.6 million years and 0.6 million years, and lastly present some very recent work that I’ve been doing on resolving the horse and proboscidean fossil record in this region.
