Dr. Tiziano Camporesi
Dr. Tiziano Camporesi is a research physicist in the area of high energy particle physics at CERN, Geneva.
High energy Physics has evolved a lot in the last 70 years: the term Big Science describes well the instruments, investments and nature of international collaboration needed today to improve our knowledge. I will describe what we understand of the underlying code which regulates the functioning of our universe and the tools that the scientific community has at its disposal to further this exploration. I will highlight the recent discovery of the particle known as 'Higgs Boson' as one of the foundations of our understanding of how matter as we know it came to exist, and describe the future challenges of our exploration of nature's mysteries.
Dr. Tiziano Camporesi is a research physicist in the area of high energy particle physics at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, and will be the Spokesperson of the CMS Collaboration from January 2014
CMS is a general-purpose detector at the Large Hadron Collider. It is designed to investigate a wide range of physics, including the search for the Higgs boson, extra dimensions, supersymmetry and particles that could make up dark matter. It is one of the largest international scientific collaborations in history, involving 4300 particle physicists, engineers, technicians, students and support staff from institutes in 41 countries.
