Abstract:
The search for matter displaying both structured states and superfluidity has been subject to complicated theoretical proposals for years. Experiments conducted previously have probed for existence of superfluidity in structured states. However, a recent experimental study has resulted in translational symmetry breaking in superfluid state without any complicated engineering. I will talk about the surprising observation of formation of droplet crystals in this experiment and the follow-up theoretical works explaining this new phenomenon, which is a possible candidate for the 'supersolid' state.
