mesoscopic systems with conformation dependent damping can be modeled by Brownian dynamics in the presence of a multiplicative noise. The presence of multiplicative noise introduces an inhomogeneity of space even in the absence of any other force which indicates that the standard Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution is possibly not the equilibrium distribution for such systems. I would show how the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution should be modified in such cases based on the strict demand of no entropy production in equilibrium. The modified mesoscopic dynamics used would then be shown to follow from a microscopic Hamiltonian of the bath and the system by integrating out the bath degrees of freedom.
