A major route for Ca2+ entry in eukaryotic cells is through store-operated CRAC channels. These channels have a unique gating mechanism: they open following emptying of intracellular Ca2+ stores.
CRAC channels stimulate a range of key cellular responses including:Exocytosis, Mitochondrial Metabolism, Gene expression,Cell proliferation. Calcium entry through CRAC channel activates several intracellular calcium dependent transcription factor among them nuclear factor of acyivated T-cell (NFAT) is important. Regulation of NFAT by CRAC channel is important part of my presentation.
