Our research group is devoted to the synthesis of functional materials for different applications mainly in biomedicine, catalysis, coatings and energy. The discovery of new versatile and functional materials with solid prospect for practical applications is intimately associated to inexpensive, simple and scalable processes. Thus, we aim to select the most practical chemical approaches for the synthesis of new functional materials. In this sense, we like to apply to materials design the "KISSu principle" (Keep It Simple and Sustainable). In this talk, we will discuss the results of two very different projects but with simplicity and robustness as common denominator. The first example deals with the preparation of polymeric materials for metal adhesion and anticorrosion applications using click chemistry and the second one deals with the use of supramolecular gels as reaction media to carry out photochemical reactions that are forbidden under the same mild conditions in solution.
