Membrane protein structures without crystals, by single particle electron cryomicroscopy

Thu, Jun 23, 2016,   04:30 PM to 05:30 PM at Seminar Room 34, 2nd Floor, Main Building

Dr. Vinothkumar K. R.
MRC-Laboratory of Molecular Biology Cambridge, UK

Recent advances in electron cryomicroscopy has allowed structures of membrane proteins to be obtained without the need for crystals. Using two multi-subunit membrane protein complexes from inner mitochondria namely ComplexI and ATP synthase as examples I will highlight how the technique of single particle cryoEM is used to obtain structures. Further I will illustrate how distinct states of these enzymes can be identified by computational sorting.
