Dr. Nikhil Phadke is the founder and chief scientist at GenePath Dx (Causeway Healthcare Pvt Ltd), a Pune based genomics health-care start-up. He will share his experience with molecular diagnostic start-ups in the US and India, highlighting the successes and challenges along the journey, and emphasizing the importance of tight co-ordination between cross-disciplinary teams. He will also speak about how GenePath Dx/Causeway Healthcare offers a platform for science and technology development hand in hand with the ability to impact individual patient care on a routine basis. Finally he will discuss the facilities and projects being initiated at GenePath Dx
with a view to exploring collaborations between researchers and faculty at our organizations.

GenePath Dx (Causeway Healthcare Pvt Ltd) is a next generation diagnostics company that provides state-of-the-art in vitro diagnostic techniques such as molecular diagnostics to the healthcare and allied communities. The company has a large portfolio of molecular tests (nearly 300) , many of which have been designed, developed and validated in-house, across medical disciplines including infectious diseases, oncology (solid tumors), haematology and haemato-oncology, paediatrics and endocrinology, nephrology, musculo-skeletal disorders, rare genetic diseases, transplantation typing, pharmacogenetics, and pre-natal and pre-implantation genetic diagnostics. The company has well equipped laboratory in the heart of Pune which includes conventional and next generation sequencers and a microarray platform.

Nikhil obtained his PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, and has over fifteen years of experience in the fields of Molecular Biology, Proteomics and Molecular Diagnostics. He was a core team member at HandyLab, a highly successful microfluidics based molecular diagnostics startup in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA that was subsequently acquired by Becton Dickinson (BD). He founded GenePath Dx (Causeway Healthcare Pvt Ltd) with a view to bringing state-of-the-art in vitro diagnostic tools to the Indian medical community. He has several publications in international peer-reviewed journals and also has a number of granted US patents and submitted patent applications.
