Abstract - "I will present my research exploring nonlinear optics using guided-waves in confined geometries, where both the light and matter is confined to a small area yielding strong interactions. The first part of my talk will discuss efforts at producing nonlinear effects at ultralow light levels using atomic vapor confined inside a hollow-core optical fiber, the subject of my PhD dissertation. I'll show two specific examples demonstrating strong photon-photon interactions in our system, namely few-photon all-optical switching and large cross-phase modulation for quantum computing applications. The second part of my talk will focus on my postdoctoral work, where we are building novel coherent light sources based on nonlinear photonics in on-chip diamond micro-resonators for applications in spectroscopy, sensing and optical communications. I'll present our efforts towards realizing broad-band optical frequency combs and widely-tunable Raman lasers in a compact platform using this system."
