Our understanding of basic sciences has led to technological advancements and developing engineering principles and tools. However, the same principles and tools are being utilized to investigate several interesting questions in basic sciences. One such example in biological systems is temporal modulation of input signals or process parameters. We employ this approach to two entirely different biological processes working at distinct time and length scales, viz. G-protein coupled receptor mediated cell signaling and culture processes in biotech industries. Yet, similar output characteristics are observed for the two systems. The approach incorporates simultaneous experimentation and mathematical/computational modeling, and provides several mechanistic insights that might otherwise have remained unknown.
