Abstract : Systems biology in the 21st century has expanded to include the new
kid on the block, namely, metabolomics. Metabolomics studies offer a unique
insight into how organisms respond to a plethora of complex environmental factors
such as disease, diet and aging. Metabolites are small molecules which are
the by-products of biological processes and are candidates for biomarkers of
environmental impact on the metabolism of organisms. The talk will review
the impact of NMR as a methodology on the metabolomic studies of plants, insects
and animals. I will present some recent research results from our group in
these directions.
