wNMR: A local probe of magnetism in materials

Abtract :

Low-dimensional quantum magnets are presently a popular field of study due to their unusual magnetic properties. I will present novel and interesting aspects of systems such as antiferromagnetic spin chains, spin ladders, triangular lattices, etc.  The integer spin Heisenberg AF chain has come into focus again following the recent Nobel prize to Haldane.  I will show that NMR is an efficient probe of the local magnetic properties and especially of the short range magnetic order of such systems.  NMR is useful in probing intrinsic properties of superconductors, spin chains, frustrated magnets, etc.  I will present a summary of our recent work on iridium and copper based systems pertaining to spin-liquid behavior due to their triangular geometries which are geometrically frustrated.
