After an introduction into the classical large sieve and some of its important applications, I will talk about the large sieve with quadratic moduli, developed by L. Zhao and myself, and the applications it found. Furthermore, I will talk about my recent extionsion of it to the Gaussian integers and discuss possible directions of future research related to it.
