This is a revised version of study based on the Approach Paper of India in FAO-IGG (Intergovernmental Group on Tea: 20th Session). Within the partial equilibrium framework, it sheds light on climate sensitiveness of tea economy by assessing functional relationship between net revenue and climate variables, and then simulates the impacts of foreseeable climate scenarios on tea industry. Rethinking the Ricardian framework in single-crop modelling for optimum production behaviour of tea growers with possible adaptation responses across different climates, the study found a discerning impact on net revenue by seasonal climate variables. In the climate variables, temperature effect is found less intensive than precipitation. Further, the climate simulation measure shows that an increase in temperature causes revenue to decline in summer but increase in winter. Similarly, a rising precipitation is beneficial during winter, but found detrimental in summer seasons.

Nimai Das is the HoD and Associate Professor of Economics at MRIIRS (Deemed University). He has been associated as faculty in several academia like Institute of Economic Growth (Delhi University North), Centre for Studies in Social Sciences (ICSSR-ERC), Presidency College Kolkata, Public Health Foundation India (IIPH) and Amity University. Nimai received BSc(Hons) and PhD in Economics from the University of Calcutta.
