Found in Translation: Revisiting 'translation' in the everyday

Fri, Aug 17, 2018,   12:00 PM at Seminar Room 24 (Main Building)

Dr. Chandrani Chatterjee
Assistant Professor, Department of English, Savitribai Phule Pune University

The presentation makes a claim for the recent developments in translation studies that has moved beyond a mere linguistic understanding of the discipline to include ideas and concepts that were hitherto not understood as translation. The presentation proposes to address what is 'found' in translation as opposed to the more widely accepted notion of 'lost' in translation. Using examples from a wide variety of fields, the presentation harps on the need for understanding the enabling aspect of such use of translation in the world we inhabit.
