Abstract:
Surface science has played an indispensable role in the development of various industrial technologies viz. chemical, medical, information, environmental, and energy. The prime importance of surface chemistry is clearly visible from the immense economic impact made by these technologies. The simple process of converting atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia by a reaction with hydrogen using a metal catalyst under high temperatures and pressures laid the foundation of surface chemistry in the beginning of 20th century. Over these decades of continued investigation, surface science has now emerged into a very complex domain of research. In this talk, I will be discussing the emerging complexity of surface bond which could have a stimulating impact in the 21st century.
