FameLab is one of the largest science communication training programme and competition designed to develop the capacity of young scientists and engineers to actively engage with the public and stakeholders. The format gives only 3 minutes for participants to explain their area of science in a clear and charismatic manner without any digital aids.
Communicating science to a lay audience is a growing priority for researchers worldwide. FameLab helps STEM workers acquire valuable skills to communicate their work accessibly and attractively to a non-scientific audience. The competition offers contestants training masterclasses, which focus on presentation and communication skills and aim to empower individual scientists and researchers in speaking about their work.
Cheltenham Festivals began FameLab in the UK in 2005 but, with British Council involvement since 2007, the programme is now truly international, taking place in 27 countries in 2016. In its first year, FameLab India received over 300 applicants from 4 zones. Twelve shortlisted finalists will now go on to battle it out at the national finals at IISER Pune. Come and watch India’s young science talent take the stage and prove that science can engage and entertain!
The participants selected at the zonal levels get an opportunity to participate in the 'Master Class' which is a 2-day training programme, and also participate in the national grand finale, both of which will be hosted at IISER Pune.
