Summary:
The cellular cytoskeleton is a complex assembly consisting of different fiber networks as well as a multitude of associated and interacting proteins. This complex assembly is involved in virtually every important event in the life of a cell. In the past decades, much insight has been gained in understanding the detailed assembly and function of the microtubule and the actin cytoskeletons. However, less is known on the interactions between both cytoskeletal networks, their interactions with the more heterogeneous intermediate filaments, and the fine-tuning of this complexity in the cell. The current workshop will bring together leading experts from diverse fields, representing different perspectives on the problem of cytoskeletal functions, in vitro as well as in cells. The goal is to identify emerging frontiers and new challenges in understanding the cytoskeleton, and develop interdisciplinary strategies by combining complementary expertise and knowledge.
