Online Workshop on Geodynamic Modelling
under Accelerate Vigyan
Dates: October 4-8, 2021.
About: Geodynamic modeling is a powerful way to investigate Earth’s crust, mantle, and core processes. It contributes to our understanding of the evolution of the Earth, natural hazards, and resources. The plummeting cost of computing has made it possible to implement complex geodynamic modeling on relatively simple machines. The current trend in modeling has been to develop universal approaches that can mimic the most complex and multi-scale geodynamic processes. Staggered finite-difference with marker-in cell (SFD-MIC) technique is one such simple method with widespread applicability. It has been successfully implemented to model long-term and short-term Earth processes involving complex rheological materials. The workshop will train students on a short theoretical knowledge of the SFD-MIC, followed by Matlab-based hands-on training with examples.
15 students from all the registrations would be selected based on their responses in the registration form and their research and educational qualifications. An advanced educational qualification and research experience will be preferred.
