About the Speaker: Vivek Divan is a lawyer who works on the intersections of law, health and sexuality. He received BA and Bachelor of Law degrees from National Law School of India University and a Master's in Law from Cornell University. He has worked extensively on issues of HIV, access to justice, LGBT people, law and human rights in India and globally. As a Coordinator from 2000-2007 for the Lawyers Collective, he was part of the team that drafted legislation on HIV/AIDS for India and strategised campaigns and advocacy on law and human rights issues related to sex work, intellectual property and access to medicines. He served on the Secretariat for the Global Commission on HIV and the Law from 2010 to 2012, and from 2012-14 he was Policy Specialist at the UN Development Programme’s HIV, Health and Development Group in New York. He is presently based in Delhi where he focuses on legal literacy and consultancy to various agencies including the United Nations and the Government of India, with a focus on health, law and policy.
