The Centre of Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education (COESME) at IISER Pune in association with Marathi Vidyan Parishad has organised:

State School Teachers' Science Congress

The Congress aims at providing a platform to the science and mathematics teachers to communicate their ideas, and share new experiments in teaching methodology and science education. The objective is to provide teachers an opportunity to present innovative approaches in science teaching and get other similar ideas that can be put into practice from their peers.

One hundred school teachers from all over Maharashtra will participate in this Congress. The focal theme will be Innovative Methods for Evaluation of Science Learning in Classroom. As the methodology of teaching science in schools gradually changes from a lecture-based format to learning by doing, flipped classrooms, and inquiry-based approaches, evaluation methods also need to be accordingly modified. Unless appropriate methods of evaluations are used, the innovations in teaching methods will not make the expected impact. Also, evaluation schemes need to address the diversity in the classroom, with respect to learning abilities, backgrounds, communication skills, and styles of learning. This theme will give thus bring to the fore innovations in evaluation techniques generate discussion on how evaluation methods can be adapted to suit diversity in the classroom. The teachers will present their innovations in parallel sessions dedicated to various sub-themes. Selected teachers from each group will get an opportunity to share their ideas in the Plenary Session at the end of the day.
