Abstract: For decades, the artificial intelligence (AI) community has sought to create perceptive, communicative and collaborative agents that can augment human capabilities in real world tasks. While the advent of deep learning has led to remarkable breakthroughs in computer vision and natural language processing, creating active and intelligent embodied agents continues to be immensely challenging. In this talk I will discuss some of these challenges in the context of research projects including semantic navigation, question answering and multi-agent collaboration. Finally I will introduce a new real embodied AI platform being developed by the Allen Institute for AI to develop agents in simulated worlds and test them in real physical environments.
