Webinar 6: Using Computational Models to Teach Scientific Inquiry
Date: October 17, 2020
Time: 4:00 pm
Speakers: Sugat Dabholkar (Doctoral Researcher, Northwestern University, USA); Accompanied by Dr. Asim Auti, Ms. Prachi Pasalkar (IISER Pune)
Abstract: Teaching scientific inquiry involves engaging students in the practices that scientists use to make sense of different phenomena in the world. Such engagement helps them develop conceptual understanding, and also enables them to learn the inquiry practices. Computational models and simulations can be highly effective tools for this purpose. To actively engage in scientific inquiry practices using computational models, appropriate learning activities need to be designed. This pedagogical aspect has gained even more importance as science educators all over the world are devising effective ways to facilitate remote learning during the pandemic. In this talk, I will discuss the use of computational models in online instruction to facilitate students' active learning of science by engaging them in scientific inquiry practices.
