Workshop on Introduction to Machine Learning, focused on Applications in Biology
for Undergraduate Teachers

About the Workshop: Machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly becoming an integral part of daily life. Moreover, many questions in science are now being addressed using ML tools. This Workshop is aimed primarily at college teachers who would like to get a rapid introduction to this field. A particular focus of applications will be biology and medicine, which is an area ripe for analysis of 'big datasets'. Participants will be introduced to concepts relevant to ML from scratch, however, basic familiarity with statistics will be expected. In addition, a working knowledge of R is highly desirable. Topics that will be covered will include support vector machines, classification and regression trees, decision trees, neural networks and more.

- Stay arrangements may be made for selected outstation participants
- Please note that no travel allowance will be paid
Eligibility: Teachers teaching B.Sc. or M.Sc. courses with at least a masters and two years of teaching experience. Highly motivated/exceptional candidates with lesser experience may be considered subject to selection criteria and availability of seats. Knowlwdge of R-programming desirable.
