Dr. G. V. Pavan Kumar wins 2015 NASI-Scopus Young Scientist award in Physics  Jul 01, 2015

 

Dr. G.V. Pavan Kumar, Assistant Professor at IISER Pune, has won the NASI-Scopus Young Scientist award in Physics for 2015.

The award was initiated by Scopus™ in 2006 to recognize knowledge and expertise of young Indian researchers. Since 2009, they have partnered with the National Academy of Sciences, India to give these awards to scientists of exceptional merit below the age of 40 years. The recipients are selected on the basis of several criteria that include publications in high impact factor journals, citation parameters, and impact of work. The awards, consisting of a citation and cash prize of Rs. 75000, are given in nine major scientific areas.

Dr. Pavan Kumar works in the broad area of optical physics, focussing on plasmonics, nanophotonics, and Raman Scattering. His research group is trying to understand how light interacts with nanostructures and molecules using knowledge from optics, spectroscopy and material science.
