Dr. Sudarshan Ananth, Associate Professor of Physics at IISER Pune, has been awarded the Buti Foundation Award for Excellence in Theoretical Physics by the Indian Physics Association (IPA) for the year 2014. The Buti Foundation award was instituted by Prof. Bimla Buti who was a Professor of Astrophysics at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad.
This award is given once in two years to Indian scientists below the age of 40 years, by the Indian Physics Association. It consists of a citation, gold medal and cash prize. Dr. Ananth works at the interface of General Relativity (Gravity) and Quantum Mechanics. He headed the Max Planck Partner Group in Quantum Field Theory at IISER Pune from 2009 to 2013. He has previously won several other accolades including the INSA Young Scientist Medal, the N. S. Satya Murthy Memorial Award and the Ramanujan Fellowship of DST.
