Dr. G. V. Pavan Kumar, Associate Professor (Physics) at IISER Pune, has been elected as a Senior Member of Optical Society (OSA).

The Optical Society is an international organisation for promotion of optics and photonics with a mission to unite and educate scientists, engineers, educators, and other professionals globally. The OSA has announced this year’s list of Senior Members comprising well-established individuals who have been recognised for their experience and professional accomplishments within the field. To qualify for membership, individuals require at least ten years of significant professional experience, an active OSA Membership and two endorsement statements from current OSA Members. The final list is then selected by the OSA Board of Directors. Senior Members receive OSA Member benefits and services along with recognitions in various events and publications.

Dr. Pavan Kumar has been commended by OSA for research contributions in the field of plasmofluidics, nanowire plasmonics and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy. His research group works on optical physics, focussing on plasmonics, nanophotonics, and Raman Scattering. His research tries to understand how light interacts with nanostructures using knowledge from optics, spectroscopy and materials science. You can read more about his research here.
