Prof Ganesh Appointed as a Principal Editor of New ACS Journal  Mar 16, 2016

The American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society and publisher of ~50 peer-reviewed journals, has announced a new rapid and open access publication in multidisciplinary chemistry:  ACS Omega.  Prof KN Ganesh (Director, IISER Pune) is one of the four experts from all over the world who will lead the new journal as its chief editors.

In addition to Prof Ganesh, Prof Cornelia Bohne (University of Victoria, Canada), Prof Luis Liz-Marzán (Centro de Investigación Cooperativa en Biomateriales, Spain) and Dr Deqing Zhang (Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences) will be part of the team. The four ACS Omega editors are based in key regions of research worldwide like the Americas, Europe, India and China. Together they have authored in aggregate more than 850 peer-reviewed research articles, book chapters and patents.

The principal editors of ACS Omega have been selected on the basis of their expertise in four distinct scientific areas of interest, in which they are acknowledged leaders. Prof Ganesh works on biomolecular chemistry of nucleic acids, peptides and lipids. Drug development, DNA diagnostics and nanotechnology are his research interests, with particular focus on modified DNA and peptide-nucleic acids (PNA) as novel cell-penetrating agents. He is the founding and present director of IISER Pune. Prof Ganesh is also a fellow of several scientific bodies including the Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS, Bangalore), the Indian National Science Academy (INSA, New Delhi) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).

The new journal ACS Omega will select articles after rigorous peer review for technical quality and swiftly publish them open access to enable the scientific community to determine the significance and perceived impact of the underlying research. The journal will begin publication in mid-2016. The four chief editors will now constitute an editorial board of researchers with diverse expertise and backgrounds from chemistry, chemical engineering and allied interdisciplinary scientific fields.

On his new appointment Prof Ganesh said, “There is a great need for the creation of a suitable publication platform that documents the data-rich research that all too often goes undocumented in a form that is accessible to the larger research community. I am happy to be a part of a journal created by the premier chemical society of the world that will capture such data and will no doubt contribute to advancing research on a global scale.”

We congratulate Prof Ganesh and wish him the best for his new role.
