Prof. LS Shashidhara elected Vice President of the Indian National Science Academy  Jan 13, 2016

Prof. LS Shashidhara, Dean (Research and Development) and Chair of Biology at IISER Pune, has been elected as Vice-President of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi.  

The INSA is a body of Indian scientists established in 1935. Its objective is to promote science in the country and aid in utilizing scientific knowledge for national welfare. The highest decision making body of INSA is the Council that is comprised of a President, six Vice-Presidents, and other elected members.  

Prof. Shashidhara has been a Fellow of INSA since 2007. He has now been elected as one of the Vice-Presidents on the INSA Council. A recipient of the CSIR Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award and DST JC Bose Fellowship, Prof. Shashidhara is a developmental biologist. His research group studies the evolution and functional genomics of appendages using the fruit fly Drosophila as a model system. You can read more about his work here.
