Prof. Sanjeev Galande (Professor, Biology and Dean, Research & Development) is one of the awardees of the prestigious J. C. Bose National Fellowship for 2019.

The fellowship is awarded by the Department of Science and Technology’s (DST) Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) to selected, active scientists in all areas of science for their outstanding performance. S. S. Bhatnagar Award and membership of various academies of science are among the criteria used for selection. The awardees receive a monthly fellowship in addition to regular income and a research grant of Rs. 15 lakh per year, while the host institute receives Rs. 1 lakh for overheads. Duration of the fellowship is for five years. Prof. Galande is among the thirteen awardees of the J. C. Bose National Fellowship declared in July 2019.

Prof. Galande heads the Centre of Excellence in Epigenetics at IISER Pune. His research group explores spatio-temporal regulation of gene expression, and nuclear organization and function. He uses a variety of model systems to investigate the evolution of epigenetic mechanisms. His other accolades include International Senior Research Fellowship (Wellcome Trust, UK); Swarnajayanti Fellowship; S. S. Bhatnagar Award; GD Birla Award among others.
