Siddhesh Kamat Becomes EMBO Young Investigator  Nov 13, 2019

Dr. Siddhesh Kamat, Assistant Professor in Biology at IISER Pune, has been selected as European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO)’s Young Investigator for four years starting January 2020. He is one of 27 life scientists from across the globe chosen for this award.

EMBO is an organization that promotes excellence in life sciences by supporting talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulating exchange of scientific information, and building a research environment though activities like the Young Investigator Programme (YIP). EMBO Young Investigators are researchers under the age of 40 who are within their first four years as group leaders and have a proven record of scientific excellence.

Through the EMBO YIP, Dr. Kamat joins an elite network of 129 current and 340 former fellows globally. EMBO Young Investigators enjoy a range of benefits to support them in their careers, that include access to core facilities at European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, additional research funding, networking and training opportunities, and an award.

Dr. Siddhesh Kamat’s group studies biological processes involved in lipid signaling and metabolism in the nervous and immune system. The group employs chemical probes in conjunction with advanced mass spectrometry based metabolomics and proteomics techniques, with the long term goal of providing novel insights and therapeutic paradigms for human neurological and immunological diseases. He is also a recipient of Indian National Science Academy (INSA)’s Young scientist Medal for 2019 and the UAA-ICT Alumnus Award.

Our congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Siddhesh Kamat!
