Serine/threonine-protein phosphatase 4 catalytic subunit

PP4C belongs to PPP phosphatase family. It is reported to dephosphorylate gamma-H2AX (H2AS139ph; universal DNA damage marker) that form during DNA replication at the sites of DNA damage. Silencing of PP4C causes increase in gamma-H2AX but ATR and Checkpoint proteins remain unaffected (PMID: 18614045, PMID: 18758438). PP4C directly interacts with HDAC3 and this interaction modulates the activity of HDAC3 (PMID: 15805470). PP4C is also shown to be located at microtubule organising centre at centrosomes and has some function in microtubule organisation (PMID: 10769191).
