E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase RNF8

RNF8 belongs to RNF8 family and is responsible for the ubiquitination of H2A and H2A.X at double strand breaks (PMID: 18001824). RNF8 works in association with Ubc13 (E2-conjugation enzyme) to ubiquitinate H2A during nucleotide excision repair as a DNA damage response (PMID: 19797077). 53BP1 is known to elicit DNA damage responses by RNF8 dependent or RNF8 independent manner (PMID: 18337245).
